Father, today they are going to put me under.
I have signed the papers. The nurse has explained what happens. I know it is routine for them. It is not routine for me.
Be in the room. Be in the hands of the surgeon. Be in the anesthesia I cannot feel arriving.
I am giving over the only body I have to people I have known for fifteen minutes, because You have placed them in this work. I trust them because I trust You.
If I wake up — when I wake up — meet me on the other side. Help me be patient with the recovery. Help me notice the body I have been taking for granted.
If something goes differently than planned, You are not surprised. You are not far. You are here, before I close my eyes, and there when I open them, and in the time between, holding what I cannot hold.
In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
