New Year's Eve
For the night between the year that ends and the year that begins
Lord, the year is ending in a few hours.
I am not going to lie and say it all went the way I wanted. It did not. Some of what I asked for happened. Some did not. Some things I did not even know to ask for arrived anyway.
I am not going to make a resolution I cannot keep. I am going to make one prayer instead.
Be the One who carries me into the next year. Not my willpower. Not the fresh-start feeling that fades by mid-January. You.
Take the regrets that are mine to carry forward — and only those. Leave the rest on this side of midnight.
The new year does not need to fix me. It needs to find me walking in Your direction. Whatever pace. Whatever falters. Toward You.
